Homemade foods and beverages is surely the safest way to go. For instance, sucralose sold as splenda ® can be used in hot beverages such as coffee and hot tea and in baking, and use in any baked dish that would normally require sugar. Saccharin is another safe sugar substitute for diabetics and is sold as Sweet N Low® and Sugar Twin®, and is perfect for use in cold teas and other drinks. Saccharin can also be used with a few hot drinks, but many say that it takes on a more bitter taste in hot foods. Aspartame marketed as NutraSweet® and Equal®is still a popular product is better for use with cold recipes,but is suited for use in cooking.

Be informed that the presence of artificial sweeteners in packaged foods does not make it diabetic-friendly. To help enhance the taste,most of the processed foods contain higher carbohydrates levels and fat that make them even worse for the diabetic individuals than processed foods that contain trace amounts of sugar.

Generally, a few of the sugar substitutes sold on the market today are considered safe for use by diabetics. If ever you are already using or intended to use them ,care should be taken to note any unrelated side effects of using the product. A few diabetic individuals have had allergic reactions to one artificial sweetener, while having no problems with other types of sugar substitutes. There have also been concerns about the health effects of consuming sugar substitutes in large quantities in the long run, so they should play a minor role in a healthy diabetic diet plan.
