Diabetes with a Plan-1200 Calorie diabetic Diet

A 1200 calorie diabetic diet means to eat no more than 1200 calories of food on a daily basis.  It is modeled after a diet plan that allows individuals to lose weight and maintain a healthy level of body fat.  Since the body is constantly burning energy, limiting the amount of calories will play a major role in losing weight.  Moreover, a 1200 calorie diabetic diet will control blood sugar and reduce the risk of heart conditions.
A meal plan

Count carbs-Found in many foods (breads, fruits, vegetables, starches, dairy products and sweet snacks and food), it is vital that an individual who has been diagnosed with diabetes.  Carbohydrates are the foundation of energy in the body.  Once eaten, carbohydrates are transformed into glucose (blood sugar).  Individuals with type 2 diabetes develop intolerance to the insulin that allows the body to utilize the glucose in a productive way.  The amount of carbohydrate intake per day breaks down to about 50%.

Lower fat-The ratio of fatty foods in the diet should be about 30%.  Fat can be found in meats and meat substitutes.
Reduce protein intake-Protein foods are chicken, fish, red meats, pork and nuts.  Some of these foods can also be included in fat.  The amount of protein in the diet per day should be about 20%.

 Menu
Carbohydrates account for about 12 to 15 grams of carbs per serving.  Fruits only account for about 5 grams per serving.  Proteins and fats do not account for any carbohydrates.  With this in mind, it is easier to break down the plan for meals per day, keeping in mind the percentages of each category for the daily total.  Below is a sample menu for one day of a 1200 calorie diabetic diet.

First of all, familiarize yourself with the size of servings of food.  Learn to portion items into serving sizes.  The more you do this the easier it becomes to know the right amount to eat.

Breakfast-the first meal of the day is very important.  It sets the standard for the rest of the day.  It will also be the foundation of energy throughout the morning.  Begin with three carbohydrate servings (this will roughly translate to 40 grams of carbohydrates).  It can be any combination of breads, fruits and dairy.  Add margarine on toast (though you may want to consider a low fat margarine) for a fat item.  Add 1 meat or meat substitute item (an egg or chicken sausage).

Lunch-by midday, you will probably be ready for to eat.  Again, three carbohydrate servings will create a meal that is roughly 40 grams of carbohydrates.  Add meat item (tuna, chicken salad).  Add mayonnaise for a fat item.

Snack-just as important as a meal, a snack can create predictability for your body.  Limit snack to one carbohydrate serving (15 grams).  This could be any combination (up to three fruit servings).

Dinner-be creative with dinner.  Keep the pallet excited with a little variety.  You can either have a complete meal of around 60 grams of carbohydrates (4 servings), or you can break it up into a 15 gram after dinner snack.  Add a meat serving (2 ounces) and a fat item.

Keep the times of your meals consistent to develop a pattern for your body.  Steer away from jams or syrups.  For further details of a 1200 calorie diabetic diet , consult your physician.
